And inside source at Gruppo Campari has hinted at a new, reasonably priced Auchentoshan that should be appearing soon. Currently named “American Oak”, it will be a core range whisky without an age statement, but should be a somewhat older vatting than Auchentoshan Classic, while containing spirit younger than their 12 yo expression.
Like the premium release Valinch expressions, it will be aged in 100% American oak barrels, most likely seasoned with bourbon, and triple-distilled like all Auchentoshan. We do not know as of yet if it is replacing Classic, but it is hoped that it will bare a stronger resemblance to the fresh, fruity, and genuinely classic 10 year old variety that ruled the Lowlands throughout the 1990s.
